Our History

The origins of Perkins Stockwell & Co Ltd reach all the way back to the late eighteenth century. In circa 1805 the company was officially established as H Measures.

During the nineteenth century our company evolved & developed into a well-regarded & trusted firm. The firm traded using various names over the years, as more workers became part of the team. By 1881 it was known as Perkins Long & Tyler. During this period our specialism was primarily in the manufacture of furniture & upholstery.

The name of the company was changed to Perkins Neale & Stockwell in 1904 when Mr Francis Stockwell became a partner. This began the Stockwell family's long association with the firm.

The firm had divided into Perkins Neale & Co and Stockwell & Son by 1926. However, following the end of the Second World War when Mr Horace Stockwell and Mr Arthur Perkins were
de-mobilised from the army it was decided that the two halves of the company should rejoin.
And so, in 1947 the company was renamed Perkins Stockwell & Co Ltd and has remained so ever since.
